Meet The Board
Vice-President: Lori Messing
Lori Messing has been a member of ALDA, Inc. and ALDA-GS since 1999.
was 24 years old and had been experiencing progressive hearing loss in both ears for 8 years.
She came to ALDA knowing very little about living with deafness.
did not know how to use a phone and she
was even afraid to drive a car!
Excited to learn there were others like her
losing their hearing, Lori
no longer felt isolated and immediately began to embrace ALDA's
first ALDAcon in Alexandria, VA, she
was amazed by all the technology available for people with hearing loss and she
made lasting friendships with people all over the world.
decided to give back as much as she
could to the group that had given her
so much of her
has volunteered for ALDA
in many capacities.
She has been the Public Relations Chairperson for several ALDA conventions, the Assistant Editor of the ALDA News and Secretary of ALDA-GS.
She is currently the Editor of the ALDA-GS Newsletter and the moderator for the ALDA-GS listserv on Yahoo Groups.
Lori is honored to be Vice President and she hopes to make changes that will lead ALDA-GS into the future.

You may not know of Lori's career as a school teacher and the challenges her hearing loss presented in the classroom.
The Winter 2011 edition of the Deafness Research Foundation's Hearing Health Magazine features "Life Lessons of a Young School Teacher", which spotlights Lori.
The article follows her through college, where she first experienced severe hearing loss, and into the classroom.
It outlines her determination to succeed in spite of obstacles that only began with deafness.
