My Amazing Adventures with God by Dr. Lonnie Rex, a book review by Gregory H. Morgan, a Contributing Writer for Hugh's News
Lonnie Rex is an amazing man. In his book My Amazing Adventures With God, the reader finds out about the exciting spiritual journey that Dr. Lonnie Rex traveled throughout his life. Lonnie Rex was born in Oklahoma, and was stricken with polio in 1937 when he was only nine years old. He had to endure a number of surgeries and wore leg braces until he was in college. Yet, he went on to help with the financing of international ministries around the world. Lonnie's motto was "I never ask God for money, I ask Him for Ideas." Lonnie's father was a preacher and the executive director of Evangelism and World Missions for the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Undoubtedly, Lonnie's father influenced him in world missions. Through his father's preaching Lonnie identified with the young boy in the Bible who gave five loaves of bread and two small fish to Jesus. Jesus multiplied the food for thousands. In turn, Lonnie wanted to help thousands, even more, for the Kingdom of God around the world. In the 1950s Lonnie helped Oral Roberts, another Oklahoma native, to sell his program to television stations. As you will read in the book, Lonnie is only able to be successful as the Lord opened doors for him. Lonnie was arrested in Ghana. He was accused of attempting to overthrow the government. However, he was simply bringing a moped to a leper colony. He also had problems buying a new car to replace a worn out old car for missionaries. Although Lonnie had the $3,000 to purchase the vehicle, he was put on a seven year waiting list. Of course Lonnie had to pray and work with the nationals. When Lonnie told the people of India that he wanted to film their beautiful country, they were thrilled. Strings were then easily pulled and Lonnie was able to purchase the car he needed.
