Thompson appointed Acting Hennepin County Law Library Director August 11, 2014 lois langer thompson
The Hennepin County Law Library Board of Trustees appointed Lois Langer Thompson, Hennepin County Library Director, as Acting Hennepin County Law Library Director effective June 3, 2014.
In a letter to Law Library patrons and supporters, Chair of the Law Library Board of Trustees Judge Kevin S. Burke noted the strong support and leadership available from Thompson and Hennepin County Library, which has a national reputation for innovation and has talent that can be shared with the Law Library.
"I look forward to working more closely with the Law Library Board, staff and patrons to provide access to legal information and seek opportunities for continuous improvement," said Thompson, who will also continue in her role as Hennepin County Library Director.
Thompson has served as Hennepin County Library Director since February 16, 2009. She has worked within the Hennepin County Library system since 1988 and holds a Master of Arts in Librarianship and Information Management from the University of Denver.

Library Director Lois Langer Thompson reported on the Plymouth Library grand opening event. Over 10,000 items were checked out opening day. 255 new library cards were registered opening weekend.
Ms. VanBlarcom reviewed the issue was brought forward as part of the public comment to the Board Jan. 13., Library Director Thompson reported back to the Board on Feb. 24 that work was underway to address the concern with Commissioner McLaughlin's office to fulfill the guiding principles, and the decision was communicated today.
Library Director Lois Thompson indicated the capital budget submitted last year and approved included exterior signage for libraries located in Minneapolis. As submitted, the naming convention of Hennepin County Library-Nokomis, Northeast, East Lake, Hosmer, etc. will be used.
Ms. Thompson agreed and acknowledged typical branding and marketing that includes a logo does not require the use of all elements.
Ms. Thompson added staff is still working on finalizing documents with Athenaeum board members.

Director's Report - Deputy Library Director Lois Thompson Ballpark hours are set to begin June 1 with celebrations in all 18 libraries open Sundays at 2 p.m. Mission and Vision staff meetings are underway and the information from staff will be gathered for the Library Board Retreat May 10. Budget instructions for 2009 are expected the end of April. Ms. Thompson invited the Board to attend the North High School Student's writing and photography event Friday, May 23.
