DR. LLOYD EDWARD KWANTEN
Medical Advisor - Healthcare Programs
Dr. Lloyd E. Kwanten Medical Advisor - Healthcare Programs to Insight Communications Pty Ltd, completed his Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours in Anatomy and Histology at the University of Sydney, and went on to complete a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours in 2007.
Awards include Department of Anatomy and Histology Summer Scholarship, Winner of the â€˜Y.
E. Knight Neuroscience Essay Prize', the Dr. Tom Easton Scholarship from the Northern Clinical School
(Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney), and the G.S.Caird Scholarship.
He is currently working at Nepean Hospital in Sydney's West as a Junior Medical Officer.
Lloyd's passion for improving healthcare in developing nations started when he travelled to Timor-Leste to work as a medical volunteer in his first year of medical school.
The experiences that he
gained during those weeks propelled him to continue working for the Bairo PitÃ© Clinic
in a voluntary capacity, which he
has continued ever since.
In addition to volunteering at the Clinic and while a full-time student, Lloyd initiated and managed two fundraising campaigns to provide the Clinic with vital medical supplies.
The first, â€˜Music for Timor', where as Event Director and with the full support of the Australian Foundation
for the Peoples of Asia and the Pacific (AFAP) Lloyd
raised over $1500 to provide simple, inexpensive yet life-saving supplies.
Importantly, the concert also stimulated local awareness of the current health crisis in Timor-Leste via newspaper, magazine, internet and radio interviews as well as via pro-bono advertising.
The second campaign was a raffle, which raised more than $1500 to support the Clinic
also provides support for the Clinic
through the initiative â€˜Operation Lifeline'.
As one of a small team, Lloyd
is working with some of Australia's leading hospitals to facilitate pro-bono life-saving cardiac treatment for Timorese patients which is otherwise unavailable in their home country.
Over the years Lloyd
has supported the work of numerous charitable organisations and their fundraising campaigns including:
Lloyd has a strong understanding of medical research, working as a research assistant with the University of Sydney's Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery and the Laboratory of Neural Structure and Function.
was a speaker at the 25th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australian Pain Society
held in the National Convention Centre
Lloyd also has a strong grounding in the dramatic and visual arts having attended Newtown High School of the Performing Arts where he majored in drama.

brings to his
role as Medical Advisor -Healthcare Programs to Insight Communications.
