"I don't think people should be worried this year," said Liz Norris, flu-clinic coordinator for the Visiting Nurse Association in Port Huron.
"I'm keeping my fingers crossed that our suppliers will keep up with deliveries," she said.
While some shipments may be slightly delayed, Norris said, many areas in St. Clair County have received their first partial shipment.

The flu vaccine primarily is recommended for senior citizens, health-care workers, people who live or work with young children, and people with weakened immune systems and long-term diseases, said Liz Norris, flu program coordinator for the Visiting Nurse Association's health services division in Port Huron.
People with heart and lung disease, asthma, diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, HIV or AIDS and other chronic diseases could be hit hard if they catch the flu.
"If they become ill, it exacerbates their illness," Norris said.

Norris, with the VNA, said in addition to getting vaccinated, people can ward off the flu and other illnesses by practicing a few good habits.
"Thorough hand washing at any time of year is the prime thing you can do to try to protect yourself from any bacteria or virus," she said.
