Johnson City Press: Disney on Ice skating into Freedom Hall April 7-10
Freedom Hall Civic Center Director Lisa Chamness still remembers the first time she saw "Mary Poppins" and the animated version of "The Jungle Book."
grew up in Athens, Tennessee, but in order to see a major movie, her
family would have to travel to Knoxville or Chattanooga.
"It was a big event," Chamness
Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald and Goofy take a trip through a variety of Disney worlds, celebrating a Very Merry Unbirthday Party with Alice
and the Mad Hatter, attending a Valentine's Day ball with Cinderella, Ariel, Belle and Tiana, and participating in a Hawaiian luau with Lilo and Stitch.
"We are one of the smaller facilities they come into," Chamness
said, "and it's not necessarily because of our seating capacity but the size of our arena floor."
Most arenas that host hockey or ice-related events are a minimum 200 feet on the floor front to back, but Freedom Hall is 130 feet.
"It's a smaller show," Chamness
said, "but they do a great job."
said the production at Freedom Hall is one of the best opportunities for people to see a show of this scale at a local facility.
"There's a lot of people that can't go to other places to see this type of show," Chamness
said, "and we think they do a great show here at Freedom Hall."
