Rev. Lionel Sweeny, Jr. Lionel Sweeny Jr. accepted his Calling to the Ministry in 1989, after serving two years as a Youth Advisor with St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church (UMC) in Dallas, Texas.He is a Licensed and Ordained Baptist Minister with over 15 years of ministry experience, mostly focused in Youth Ministries.
Under Rev. Sweeny's
leadership as the Youth Pastor for St. Luke "Community" UMC from 1989 - 1998, the Youth Ministry experienced significant growth, expanding from three traditional Youth ministries (Choir, Ushers and Sunday School) to more than ten thriving spirit-filled ministries, including separate youth development & leadership programs uniquely tailored for males and females; Christian Education and Methodism for youth 12 years and older; a 34-week in-depth Bible Study class of the Old and New Testaments; a mentoring program designed to provide a Big Brother/Sister support system between the youth and adult members of the church; praise dancing; youth forums designed and presented by youth to address their concerns & interests; and a tutorial program for youth in the church and community.Rev. Sweeny's passion to do God's work extended beyond his church family to include designing and facilitating Parent Training Workshops in partnership with the Dallas Urban League, designing and directing Summer Camps for Junior/Senior High Youth in conjunction with the Dallas UMC District Conference, designing and facilitating Young Adult Ministries Workshops and serving as Undershepherd for the Men's Ministry at St. John AME Church in Aurora, IL. In 2001, he received the Undershepherd Award of Appreciation. Rev. Sweeny's
calling as a minister has paralleled his
business career in Corporate America which has also centered on the needs and development of people.He
is in Human Resources with over 25 years in management, leadership development, and organizational development.His
formal academic and theological education includes a Master's Degree in Organizational Development with certification in Change Management from the University of Texas at Richardson; a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology with a minor in Secondary Education from the University of North Texas
in Denton; Certification in Youth Ministries from Southern Methodist University
in Dallas, Texas; Certificates of Completion in the Minister's Division of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education
is thankful to God for having blessed him with a wife (soul mate), Cynthia "Diana" Sweeny and five loving and supporting children.
