The Greeneville City School System announced this morning that Dr. Linda Stroud has been selected to fill the position of assistant director of schools for administration, upon the retirement of Steve Long....
Dr. Stroud has worked as an educational consultant and as an adjunct professor for higher education institutions during the past year after previously serving as the principal of Greeneville Middle School for seven years, 1999-2006....
Director of
Schools Dr. Lyle Ailshie said in a press release, "I am thoroughly excited to have
Dr. Stroud rejoin the leadership of the
Greeneville City Schools.
She has proven
her capabilities at each step of
her career, and I'm sure this will continue in
her new position.
"
Her work ethic, knowledge, experience, and passion will serve
her well as
she faces the challenge of the assistant director position.
Her prior knowledge of the system will also allow
her to ‘hit the ground running.'"
Dr. Stroud was named the Tennessee Middle-Level Principal of the Year in 2005 and was one of three finalists for the 2006 National Middle-Level Principal of the Year Award.
While serving as principal of Greeneville Middle School, it was named a 21st Century School of Distinction, one of only 20 across the nation.The school was also named a
National Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School by the
Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Inc.Dr. Stroud is a 1978 graduate of Greeneville High School, a 1982 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in speech and language pathology, and a 1995 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a master's degree in comprehensive special education.She also earned her doctoral degree from East Tennessee State University in 2002 in educational leadership and policy analysis.Dr. Stroud began her career in education with the Greeneville City Schools, serving as a speech-language pathologist from 1982 until 1983.She then worked for the Tennessee Department of Human Services as a social counselor from 1983 until 1985.In 1985, Dr. Stroud returned to the Greeneville School System and served in various capacities - Alternative Learning Program director/teacher, Family Resource Center director, and assistant principal of Greeneville Middle School - prior to becoming principal at GMS.Dr. Stroud is a native of Greeneville, the wife of Tim Stroud, the mother of a son, Trent, and daughter, Anna.
