Democrat Glenn L. White defeated Republican incumbent Ron L. Llewellyn in the North River race, and independent Linda Glavis defeated Republican William "Bill" Barnett to take the open South River seat, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.Glavis had 744 votes to Barnett's 540.Vote and turnout totals do not take into account 200 countywide absentee ballots. Both White and Glavis ran unsuccessfully in 2003 in their respective localities for supervisor.Glavis said the county must follow the comprehensive plan.Barnett advocated cluster developments near the town, which have the services to handle growth.Glavis said that her victory reflected the voters' wishes to keep the district rural.Barnett said he wouldn't have done anything differently."The main reason I believe that I lost the election is that I have a long record," Barnett said.He was a former chairman of the Front Royal/Warren County Economic Development Authority."I had a very public record of activity in the community that my opponent could discuss and talk about the merits of it," he said.
