Linda Brooks-Curtis, who joined the soprano section of our choir last June, grew up in the small town of Stanford, Montana, in a very musical family. She can remember her family of six all witting on a series of steps (Her Mom, Dad, three siblings and herself) vocalizing and harmonizing as a group to Dad's guitar playing.Linda, herself, played the piano and church music played a big part in her early years. She attended Concordia College in Minnesota, which is noted for its choirs. While there she was a member of a Christian Outreach program, where she occasionally even preached a sermon. She graduated with a B.A. in English and Speech Drama. She then taught these subjects in Minnesota's public schools for the next few years.Linda was interested in a career in the musical theater. She performed in numerous musical and theatrical productions; however earning a living was her primary concernIn 1976 She moved to Las Vegas and taught here for about seven years. The next phase of her life included marriage and a wonderful son, Justin. When her son was 5 she obtained a divorce and moved back to Montana where she taught competitive speech (debating, impromptu, etc.)In 1991 she moved back to Las Vegas.Being a single parent with a son to support, she worked in the casino industry for several years and then went back to teaching which, in her conviction, was doing "something meaningful".Linda taught part time at the Community College and also substituted in the school district.Teaching at the college was very rewarding as many of the students had not been in school for a while and it was a wonderful undertaking, encouraging them in their education. In the year 2000 Linda obtained a Masters in Education Administration from University of Phoenix. She also earned an E.S.L. endorsement. She is very proud of her son, Justin, who has just completed a year at B. Y. U.In her "spare time" Linda enjoys the outdoors and hiking, reading, sewing, gathering with others, and also being in the choir. At the conclusion of this interview, her closing words were, "I feel it is a privilege to be among such a friendly group of dedicated Christian people who care for each other".Linda, we're just as happy to have you as a member of our group (and thanks for the compliment).
