Previous Related Experience -- From 1983 to 1995, Ms. Martinka
worked for the Chicago and North Western Railway.Between 1994 and 1995 she held the position of Director - Cost and Economic Analysis.
In this position she
supervised the completion of numerous economic analyses used to evaluate the impact of proposed pricing initiatives and changes to operations on corporate profitability.Ms. Martinka
oversaw the preparation of quarterly profitability reports to senior management, detailing revenues and expenses by business unit, customer and location.
In this position, Ms. Martinka
also supervised the maintenance and improvement of corporate profitability measurement systems -- writing and editing in-house computer application user manuals.As a member of a Joint Finance
, IS and Marketing Task Force
created, improved and documented database applications for tracking corporate profitability data.From 1992 to 1994, Mr. Martinka held the position of Director - Transportation Budgets & Special Projects.
In this position she
constructed and managed a budget of over $260 million encompassing over 40 field locations.She
developed and integrated various spreadsheet and mainframe applications to improve forecasting, reporting and analysis of monthly expenses.Ms. Martinka
prepared and presented quarterly budget vs. expense variance analyses to senior management, and worked closely with outside auditors to ensure governmental compliance of reporting data.From 1987 to 1992, Ms. Martinka was Manager - Cost and Economics Analysis in the Finance Department.Ms. Martinka
regularly prepared economic evaluations of new business proposals, capital expenditure projects, and operational changes.These analyses were based on a thorough familiarity with and understanding of the requirements of unit-train, manifest train, switching, and intermodal services.She
improved department analysis turn-around time by training staff in various mainframe and PC software packages, including spreadsheets applications and IBM's AS and SQL.Ms. Martinka
analyzed the financial terms of proposed joint venture agreements with major business partners - reviewing contractual proposals to adjust rates for the maximization of corporate revenue gain, and the minimization of exposure to downward adjustments.She
developed and documented contractual procedures to monitor joint venture profitability, and automated the collection and verification of data used to regularly adjust compensation.Upon sale of the company to the Union Pacific Railroad, she
prepared and delivered introductory presentations to the new parent company's management on corporate cost and profitability systems, and subsequently acted as the departmental transition team liaison.
