Leslie ChariparLeslie Charipar
has been selected as the new Artistic Director for Theatre Cedar Rapids, the theater's board of directors announced today. Charipar, the current education coordinator for Theatre Cedar Rapids, will succeed Richard Barker, who plans to step down from his role on Dec. 31 after 26 years as the head of the organization.
..."We're very pleased to have such talent in-house to be able to promote Leslie to Artistic Director," said Theatre Cedar Rapidsboard president Pat Deignan.
...And I can't think of anyone better to take over the position of Artistic Director than Leslie.
I have no doubt that she
will continue to carry out the mission of the theatre."
A native of Cedar Rapids, Charipar
has been involved with Theatre Cedar Rapids since 1989 as an actress, director, costumer and most recently as coordinator of the theatre's educational programming.She is a 1989 graduate of Cornell College, and holds a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from The Theatre School, DePaul University in Chicago, Ill.Charipar has also been a director with the Classics at Brucemore, Coe College, the Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival Young People's Intern Program and Urban Theater Company, which she founded.She has also served as a speech and acting coach at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. James F. Kern, executive director of Brucemore in Cedar Rapids, has worked with Charipar for more than a decade.
