Leslie Charipar, Theatre Cedar Rapids' artistic director and also director of "Gypsy," says one of the reasons the show was put on the schedule is because it's set during the 1920s and '30s, the same time Theatre Cedar Rapids was getting off the ground.

"We decided to take the next couple of seasons and go decade by decade through our history," says Charipar, 41, of Cedar Rapids.
Aside from "Gypsy" fitting into theater officials' preferred timeline, Charipar says it's just a great show.
