Lesley received her BA in Music and German in 1958 from the University of Montana. She began her nursing education at St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Racine, Wisconsin where she received her Diploma in Nursing in 1971 and continued at Vanderbilt University where she received her MSN as a Family Nurse Clinician in 1976. In 1994, Lesley completed her MPH at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. She has worked in migrant health in Colorado and was an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Montana State University. Beginning in 1980, Lesley has also worked for the Department of State, Office of Medical Services. She served overseas as a Medical Officer in Niger, India, Romania, Pakistan, Ecuador, Chad, Cameroon, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Madagascar, Kenya, Cambodia, the UK, and most recently in Kosovo and Macedonia (2009). In addition, Lesley worked at Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless and now volunteers in their Harm Reduction street outreach program. Lesley is a Reserve Officer in the Public Health Service with an active rank of Lieutenant Commander. She is a past president of the Albuquerque Guild of the Santa Fe Opera and is a member of the NM Symphony Guild. She belongs to Sigma Theta Tau, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Association, the American Public Health Association, the New Mexico Public Health Association, and has been a member of NMNPC since 1998.
