Mayor Les Aasheim
Les Aasheim was re-elected Mayor at the election held November 8, 2005. Mayor Aasheim's term will expire in 2009. Mr. Aasheim is serving his second full term as Mayor and he also served for a one-year mayoral term in 2001. He previously served on the Clive City Council from 1986 to 1998, and for a brief period in 2000 and 2001. He retired in 1999 after serving for twenty-two years as principal at Stilwell Junior High in West Des Moines. Today, Mr. Aasheim represents the city as Chair of the Metro Advisory Council (MAC), chair of the Des Moines Convention and Visitor's Bureau, past chair of the Mid-Iowa Association of Local Governments. He previously served on the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Des Moines Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), the Metro Solid Waste Agency, Clive Civil Service Commission, Clive Parks and Recreation Committee, and the Clive Community Development Association. In addition to these activities, Mr. Aasheim is a member of the Clive Lions and the Clive Historical Society. He and his wife, Sharon, reside at 8011 Northwest Drive.
