Itasca, IL - The National Safety Council has announced the appointment of Leo Carey, Executive Director for Government Services, to the newly created position of Vice President, International Affairs.
Carey, who joined the council in 1998 as Director of Government Services, has nearly 30 years of experience in national and international occupational safety and health, including 24 years with Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
As OSHA Director of Field Programs, Carey was responsible for coordinating the implementation of OSHA field activities for the entire United States.
He also led a number of international delegations for the United States and served as chairman for the 11th session of the Joint International Labor Organization/World Health Organization Committee on Occupational Health in Geneva, Switzerland.

This action represents an expansion of the National Safety Council
's international activities.
Since the early 1990s, the NSC
has conducted international business through the International Safety Council
, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Safety Council
with representatives throughout the world.
Through the International Safety Council
, the NSC
has provided occupational safety and health training and consultation, and emergency care and defensive driving training around the globe.

Carey received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Allentown College and a master's degree in occupational health from Temple University.
A resident of Glenn Dale, Maryland, Carey is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and certified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.
