Len Hering (RADM USN retired). Mr. Hering was born in Portsmouth, VA. and started his Naval career when he was commissioned through the NROTC Scholarship Program from the State of New York Maritime College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meterology and Oceanography. He also earned a Master of Science degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and a Master of Science degree in Business Management from Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I. His initial sea assignment was aboard the USS Santa Barbara (AE 28), where he served as 1st and 2nd Division Officer and Assistant First Lieutenant.

During his Naval career, Mr. Hering was on the leading edge of the Navy's renewable energy and sustainability efforts, and contributed heavily to the Navy's current renewable energy program.
