Foshag, M.D.Director, Pancreatic Research ProgramDr. Foshag graduated from the Ohio State University School of Medicine and received his surgical training at Vanderbilt University (Nashville) and West Virginia University.He served as head of the surgical oncology section at West Virginia University until 1987 and then joined UCLA's division of surgical oncology.He
has received several teaching awards in addition to the National Research Service award (1987-1991).As Director of JWCI's Pancreatic and Gastric Cancer Program, Dr. Foshag is combining basic research with the clinical practice of general surgical oncology, including privileges in thoracic oncology.He is a specialist in gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancer research with an interest in immunotherapy.Among his areas of clinical expertise are sarcomas and gastrointestinal and gynecologic oncology; he has extensive experience in laser surgery, cryosurgical ablative surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and endoscopy.Dr. Foshag
serves as St. John's Health Center's
cancer liaison physician to the American College of Surgeons
.He is director of fellowship training at Orthopaedic Hospital (Los Angeles) and has attending privileges at several additional facilities.
