Lawrence Baker is an enrolled member of the Mandan and Hidatsa Tribes of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota and a member of southern California's Rincon San Luiseño Band of Mission Indians. He is a Prairie Chicken Clan member and Child of the Water Buster Clan. His Indian names are Four Winds and Three Feathers. Son of the late Milton L. Baker and the late Arlene L. Calac, he makes his home in the Four Bears Community on the Fort Berthold Reservation. He currently works with the Fort Berthold Housing Improvement Program in New Town.
Lawrence is the grandson of the Denver March Powwow's first announcer-Paige Baker, Sr. It is his honor to serve as Master of Ceremonies. He looks forward to working with the committee and the head staff because it feels like coming home to a family. Lawrence is proud to be part the event that kicks-off the 2011 pow-wow season in a good way.
Lawrence's talent as an emcee for pow-wows and native festivals is sought out as far north as Opaskwayak Cree Nation and as far south as the Unconquered Seminole Tribe of Florida.
In the last year he has been emcee for several regional and national events including the BIA Wind Energy Summit and the South Dakota Indian Business Alliance Conference. Lawrence has expanded his announcing to include ring side boxing as well as boys basketball play-by-play broadcasting on Beck Sports TV.
Mr. Baker is pictured with his sons (Zane and Phillip) participating in a Warbonnet Dance for the Arikara Celebration in White Shield, ND.
