Some prominent teachers include Laurie Smukler, who is one of the finest and most accomplished chamber musicians in the nation, having founded the Mendelssohn String Quartet.

LAURIE SMUKLER, INTERIM ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Admired for her vivid musical intensity and the beauty of her sound, violinist and artistic director, LAURIE SMUKLER is an artist who is active as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.
Laurie Smukler is a dedicated and passionate teacher.
In addition to her new appointment to the faculty of The Juilliard School, she is a respected member of the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music, Mannes College of Music and the Conservatory of Music at Bard College.
She also spent 18 years as a Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at Purchase College Conservatory of Music; ten as Head of the String Department.
She has been on the Kneisel Hall faculty since 1997.
also has a particular interest in contemporary music and has premiered works by many composers including Ned Rorem, Morton Subotnik, Steven Paulus, Shulamit Ran and Bruce Adolphe.
plays a Petrus Guarnerius violin made in Venice in 1738 and has recorded for Music Masters.

Kneisel Hall Festival artists: violinists Ronald Copes, Laurie Smukler; violist Katherine Murdock; cellists Jerry Grossman, Barbara Stein Mallow; and pianists Xak Bjerken and Seymour Lipkin present Bach: Viola da gamba Sonata in D major, Mozart: Oboe quartet in F major, K. 370; Klughardt: Schilflieder for oboe, viola and piano and Dvorák: Piano quartet in E-flat Friday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday July 28 at 4:00 p.m. in the historic Kneisel Concert Hall in Blue Hill.
