As managing director of Carcharodon Consulting Laurie
has delivered a wide range of performance improvement projects across different sectors but particularly specialises in maintenance, turnarounds and operational improvement.Although he has held a series of senior positions in consulting he also has direct operating experience so has a very pragmatic approach to improvement work always looking for practical solutions and effective ways for these to be implemented.An international consultant, Laurie has led projects in South America, Europe, Singapore and the USA.He
recently chaired the MarcusEvans World Shutdown and Turnaround Best Practice conference in Bangkok where he
was also rated as the top speaker for both presentation style and content. Laurie graduated from Nottingham University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering before entering the ICI plc graduate training programme.
time in ICI Laurie held a number of line management positions including maintenance, commissioning and design roles.He
also had direct management responsibilities for turnarounds and this included redefining the approach for planning and managing events and establishing a new centre of excellence for delivering this. Laurie
moved into consultancy in 1998 as a senior consultant with ABB Eutech
and delivered projects with companies outside the ICI group such as DuPont
.At the time he
left Eutech Laurie was responsible for company best practice for major change projects, operational improvement, manufacturing, and maintenance including overseeing and delivering consultant training programmes.Laurie founded Carcharodon in 2002 and continues to work closely with blue chip clients such as BP with recent work including groundbreaking improvements in turnaround preparation and management systems.
