Lauren Griffin, a senior vice president at the Boston office of temp-staffing giant Addeco, said the manufacturing industry in particular has become more "project-based."
"Businesses have a better handle than before on what they need and when," she said. "We just had a client that needed more people for a back-to-school project. They know what they need for labor for certain time, and then it goes away."
Temporary staffing is also used to keep morale up for full-timers, Griffin said.
"There have been so many cutbacks, it allows them to not feel as overwhelmed," she said.
