, who specialized in sculpture and printmaking graduated in 1978.She
is considered one of the most important sculptors of Cuba's "80's Golden Generation".As the daughter of a political prisoner, her
"lack of social compatibility," did not allow her
to enter the ISA (Instituto Superior de Arte).In response, she
studied in the well known ceramic atelier of Rodriguez de la Cruz located in Santiago de las Vegas where Amelia Pelaez, Lam, Portocarrero, and many other distinguished artists had been her
continued to develop her
work there until she
family were able to obtain political asylum in the United States.Laura, an artist and mother of three, established her Little Havana studio where she continues her work in 1994.In addition to her work as a fine artist, Laura relishes cultivating creativity in children and adults through her work with organizations such as Miami-Dade College and Arts for Learning/Miami.
Upcoming local exhibitions include a shared exhibition with Baruj Salinas at the Wolfson Gallery
in October of 2005 and at the Bacardi House in May 2006.She
is also currently working on her
Nosotros-Us Monument, a public art project on Cuban Memorial Boulevard.Her
work has been exhibited at important museums and galleries. She
is currently represented by Cernuda Arte in Miami.
