Laura Rose Day is Executive Director of the Penobscot River Restoration Trust, the non-profit organization that has led implementation of the Penobscot River Restoration Project, a collaborative, public-private effort to help restore sea-run fish populations while maintaining hydropower generation through a comprehensive agreement among tribal, state and federal agencies, seven conservation groups, and dam owners. The Trust removed two dams closest to the sea (Veazie; Great Works) and decommissioned and built a bypass around an inland dam (Howland); various dam owners improved fish passage and implemented energy increases at several other dams. Laura holds degrees in law and wildlife resources and law and has served as counsel to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Manager of the National Wildlife Federation's Lake Superior and Biodiversity Project, and Watershed Program Director for the Natural Resources Council of Maine.
