Larry Barron
Barron Hockey Academy Owner and Director In 2008, his successes lead to the opening of Barron Hockey Academy training facility in Yorba Linda, California. Offering on and off-ice development, clinics, Summer camps, and team training, Barron Hockey Academy has become one of the most unique all inclusive hockey development centers in Southern California. Larry has taught a number of California's successful players, including past players that have moved on to flourishing hockey careers and present players. In 2013, Larry was given the opportunity to be the skating consultant for the NHL Anaheim Ducks' prospect camp. The coaches, as well as players took a liking to Larry's approach and he is currently flying back and forth to Norfolk, coaching the AHL Admirals. From time to time, the Ducks will bring in Larry to work 1 on 1 with NHL level players. Larry has fully embraced this opportunity and has taken his teaching to a whole new level! The list below consists of past and present students of Larry Barron and Barron Hockey Academy, that have gone on to lead successful careers and some do continue to come back to Barron Hockey Academy for training. For further information on who Larry has trained, please click here. Larry's uncanny ability to get the most out of every player he trains is what sets him apart from the rest. From Mite to Pro, Larry's ability to identify strengths and weakness and communicate them with his students is a key ingredient to his success. It is known that it is very difficult to be able to train with Larry because his time and schedule are saturated with devoted clientele. Another element of Larry's successful program that has become routine for players in Southern California and surrounding states is his Summer Camps. It is also known that these camps sell out year after year. No where else in California will you experience the complete hockey package in one week, on and off the ice! Larry Barron believes that a player's skill level is neither stumbled upon nor handed down, but earned through diligent practice and a thorough understanding of the sport. His high-intensity, no-nonsense approach teaches players the way to success, which starts by stressing good attitude, discipline, and work ethic - both on and off the ice. Larry is married to his beautiful wife Michelle and has three beautiful children; Dillon, Peyton and Brock. Larry and Chris work very closely to develop players and to insure that all of the training needs are met.

Congratulations to Kent Huskins, who worked with Larry the past couple of months towards accomplishing his goal. And work is the operative word here, said Barron Hockey Academy owner Larry Barron, who has 20 years' experience training players. "I don't care how much talent you have, you have to give the effort and have the discipline and attitude if you want good things to happen," he said. So how much should a player train? "Age is a factor, but so is the level they play at," Philips said. "Ages 10-11-12 are a good time to start with functional body weight resistance. It takes younger players more time to develop, and a training program should complement their ice skating. Coupled with skating lessons, a player can get better faster. "For example, an 18AA player might need to lift weights to get bigger, whereas you would not train a younger player that way. Said Barron, "At the Pro and Junior levels, players shut it down for 3 to 4 weeks after a long season to rest and recover. The in-season and off-season training is an important differentiation to make, Barron said. "All of my privates are year round. Whether it is in-season, or off-season I am always evaluating what players need to work on," he said. "Your diet and what you put into your body is just as important as your time spent in the gym," Barron said. Armstrong also stressed in-season nutritional strategies. "Come to the rink prepared," he said. "Larry Barron is a partner with us," Burcar said. We're trying to give kids the right information and train them the right way." Barron, who has extensive experience training hockey players through his hockey academy, has been thrilled with the partnership and the growth he's seen in OCHC's players in a short time period. His programs focus not only on hockey-specific training, but on injury prevention. "I wanted to build a facility that focuses on hockey players," Barron said. "We're following the ADM at the academy," Barron said. "The kids are eating it up," Barron said.
