LANCE H. KANESHIRO - Chief Information Officer
Lance H. Kaneshiro is the chief information officer at the Port of Los Angeles, the nation's leading containerport.
Appointed in October 2008, he has nearly 20 years of public and private sector experience in information technology (IT), engineering, strategy, operations and program management, and experience with the two other proprietary departments within the City of Los Angeles.
As chief information officer, Kaneshiro leads the Port's information technology operations and associated functions.
The Information Technology Division operates, maintains, develops and monitors the information technology solutions, requirements, and telecommunications and network infrastructure of the Port
The division's primary goal is to increase departmental operations and effectiveness through the leveraging of technology and systems.
Kaneshiro joined the Port after serving at the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), where he managed the division responsible for the IT infrastructure.
This included the IT support services, data center, network, telephone, public safety systems and related infrastructure for LAX, Palmdale and Van Nuys airports.
Prior to joining LAWA, Kaneshiro served at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) as the program manager of the Business Process Improvement (BPI) program - one of the LADWP's largest IT initiatives at the time, charged with implementing several enterprise information systems.
Prior to returning to the LADWP, Kaneshiro worked in the private sector for Deloitte Consulting.
As a manager in Deloitte's Strategy and Operations practice, Kaneshiro worked on large-scale, complex enterprise information system projects for clients, including Kaiser Permanente and the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District.
Kaneshiro started his City career with the LADWP in 1989.
He served as an engineer in design, construction, operations and maintenance, before transitioning to information systems.
Kaneshiro earned a master of business administration degree from the Anderson School at UCLA.
He also earned master of science and bachelor of science degrees, both in mechanical engineering, from the University of Southern California.
He is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in the state of California, and a certified project management professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.
