will not be in Canton, Ohio, Saturday to see former Steelers teammate John Stallworth inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
has had problems with his
back, and sitting for long periods of time can be painful. He
will be there in spirit. Some say Greenwood should be the next player from the Steelers dynasty of the 1970s to be enshrined in Canton. He
was one of the 15 finalists in this year's class of inductees and for a good reason. In 13 seasons (1969-81) he
recorded 73 1/2 quarterback sacks and recovered 14 fumbles as a left defensive end.At 6 feet 6 1/2 and 250 pounds, he
played in six Pro Bowls and was as durable as a pair of good leather boots until knee problems forced him to retire before the 1982 season.
Nicknamed "Hollywood Bags," he
knocked down three Fran Tarkenton passes in Super Bowl IX and sacked Roger Staubach three times in Super Bowl X. He
was a steal as a 10th-round draft choice from Arkansas AM&N
in '69. Still active in the community, Greenwood, 55, lives in Squirrel Hill and is head of Greenwood Enterprises and Greenwood McDonald Supply Company, which deals in electrical supplies and is based in Carnegie.
Q: What are your thoughts on those who say you should be in the Hall of Fame?
A: I really don't have any.I've been told that by a number of people over the years, but I think there are some other guys from our team who are just as deserving who are not in.I'm not upset or anything.I figure if it happens, it happens.
