New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Obuasi West
, Kwaku Kwarteng
has disclosed that district assemblies contribute GH¢3,000 each to an account at the regional level whenever the President is visiting.
said these monies are used by the regions in preparing for the President's visit in terms of logistic, acquisitions among others.
According to him, this practice of extracting monies from the district assemblies has provided festering grounds for corruption to thrive in the country.
Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show held at Alisa Hotel, Mr. Kwarteng
said corruption can be eliminated if the leadership of the country shows the willingness.
"We are always going to need a leader who is going to be an example", he
said "we need strong institutions and we need a leader who is tough" to walk the country out of corruption.
response to President Mahama's claims that he
is fighting corruption vigorously, the MP said the President has "no appetite to punish many of those people involved in corruption."
