has done a tremendous job of rebuilding our program." In his
two years at Northland
compiled a 7-45 record, including a 3-19 mark in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play. However, his
teams made great strides in many areas and were much more competitive. Last season, the Lumberjacks finished 5-21, which was three wins more than the previous season. They also were 3-9 in UMAC play after going 0-10 the prior year, but those weren't the benchmarks that Soderberg saw as the definitive success. "The only thing statistically that pointed to significant improvement was our defensive average," he
said."We went from the high 80s to 66 points a game and ranked sixth in the nation. "That's significant, but to me, we're proud of the quality of young men we brought in here." Soderberg
hadn't looked into this, but rather had been approached by Olivet officials. After checking into it, he
felt it was something he
couldn't pass on. "It was a very, very difficult decision to make for my family, but in the long run, it was a good opportunity," he
said. Besides the overall progress and plenty of talented young players brought in through recruiting the last two years, Soderberg
also took pride in the overall camaraderie of the Lumberjacks. "(What I feel most proud about is) the feeling that we generated when we talked with the team," said Soderberg
