My party is original ‘janhit', claims ex-minister Punia
Gurgaon : Bureaucrat-turned-politician and former Haryana minister Dr Kripa Ram Punia, who has recently floated the Rashtriya Janhit Party, has stated that his party was the "original" Janhit party, while the leadership of Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) had used their name. Replying to a specific query while addressing a press conference here today, Dr Punia asserted that he had formed the Janhit Morcha in 1989 and Janhit Sewa Sangathan in 1993. "Our Janhit Morcha was even registered as a political party and we contested the 1996 poll on its behalf," the former minister said, adding that their Janhit Morcha had now been renamed and registered with the Central Election Commission as Rashtriya Janhit Party. "Moreover, we have also been bringing out a fortnightly named Janhit Rakshak," he maintained. A joint Punjab-cadre IAS officer of the 1964 batch, Dr Punia served as the transport commissioner of Haryana before he quit his job to join politics. Dr Punia said he had formed a new party as he thought that no political party had taken worthwhile measures towards poverty alleviation, which, he said, was must to strengthen a democratic set-up. Unveiling his party's five-point agenda, the former minister said providing jobs to all educated and unemployed youth, ensuring a regular source of income for the daily-wagers and other small-time labourers, wheat at Rs 2 per kg for the poor, 18-hour power supply and good law and order situation were on his priority list. On being asked about his magical formula to end unemployment, he maintained that he had carried out a detailed research in this regard and turning of huge chunks of barren land into fertile land was part of his plan. In response to another question, Dr Punia said his party would be open to alliance with any party which supported its agenda.
