Harmonia and Kirsty Body - Music Fun for Everyone!
Harmonia was founded in 1999 by Kirsty Body BEd, with the aim of bringing a wide variety of musical activities to people of all ages. Kirsty Body BEd. Born into a very musical vicarage family in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Kirsty has always been a keen musician. Her first love has always been the bassoon which she started at the tender age of just 8. Her singing was a later development which she now wishes she'd discovered earlier! Kirsty trained as a teacher at Homerton College, Cambridge (1992-96), where she specialised in music. After three years as a class teacher (year 5/6), she left to pursue a career as a music specialist. It was then that Harmonia was born, with the founding of the Harmonia Youth Singers and Belleplates in 1999. She has continued to work in primary schools as a music specialist covering whole school curriculum music, singing assemblies and wider opportunities programmes. Kirsty has devised her own units of work, assessment schemes and musical shows throughout that time. She is particularly experienced with the use of ICT in classroom music (video/music projects, composition, audio book projects, and techno music). Kirsty led Spaldwick School through the Sing Up programme to achieve one of the first Platinum awards in the country, has been Leading Teacher for Music within Cambridgeshire, and worked as a mentor on the Trinity Guildhall/OU KS2 Wider Opportunities programme. She leads primary and adult choirs, and has directed many primary school Music Festivals including the Hinchingbrooke and A1 clusters. CHOA - Kirsty is a regular workshop leader at Cambridge Holiday Orchestra Association courses where she has led Music Games, Djembe Drumming and Belleplates sessions, as well as supporting orchestral rehearsals.
Kirsty Body plays loads of different instruments and does singing and music lessons. She also does singing assembly.

Feature Details - Music Manifesto
Kirsty Body, the Music Coordinator for Spaldwick, says that the Award means a lot to the school as it is a recognition of the work that they have been doing for years and continue to do.
"We know that singing is important but it's great to get the recognition for the activity that we're doing regularly." All the staff at Spaldwick are keen singers themselves and Kirsty has set up a singing squad in the school which consists of three or four pupils from each class who volunteer to be ambassadors for singing in their classes, encouraging their teacher and other pupils to sing regularly.
