Both Benton Police Chief Kirk Lane and Sheriff Rodney Wright said officers will not arrest an individual based solely on the fact that a person is carrying a gun, but will instead investigate each case separately.
Each case is judged on its own merit and a blanket opinion is not appropriate for every situation that we may encounter due to varying factors," Lane
also encouraged individuals to be extra cautious when carrying a gun.
"More importantly, we've been experiencing an increase in gun accidents and lack of responsibility related to issues about gun safety.
Over the past few years, we have taken reports of individuals finding guns that have been left in restaurants and on parking lots that have fallen out of the holster.
