Women's Athlete: Kimi Shank, Missouri Southern State UniversityShank's first conference title helped the Lions claim their third straight team championship at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association meet.She placed second at the South Central Region Championships as Missouri Southern claimed its second straight women's team title.Shank, a junior from Rolla, Mo., finished 22nd at last year's NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Missouri Southern cross country coaches Tom Rutledge and Patty Vavra were named Regional Coaches of the Year, while senior Kimi Shank was named Regional Athlete of the Year as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its regional awards.
Kimi Shank won her second straight individual championship to lead Missouri Southern to a dominating team win in the 2009 MIAA Women’s Cross Country Championships at Jones Park in Emporia. Southern outscored runner-up Truman by 39 points on the way to their fourth straight conference title. Mujahid Hassaballa (Pittsburg State) and Kimi Shank (Missouri Southern) have been named MIAA Cross Country Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 10 as selected by a conference SID panel. The honor is Shank's third conference award of the year, while Hassaballa is a first-time winner this season. Michael Pierce (Southwest Baptist) and Kimi Shank (Missouri Southern) have been selected as MIAA Cross Country Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 19 as selected by a conference SID panel. The award is Shank’s second conference honor of the year, while Pierce is recognized for the first time this season. Joey Walls (Truman) and Kimi Shank (Missouri Southern) have been selected MIAA Cross Country Runners of the Week for the week of Sept. 4-5 as selected by a conference SID panel.

MSSU's run to repeat will be led by sophomore Kimi Shank.She was the Lions' top finisher in the 2006 race and has won two individual titles in the '07 regular season -- finishing no worse than third all season.Southern sophomore Kimi Shank won for the second time in as many races to pace the Lions' team victory.She was more than 11 seconds ahead of the competition with her 5,000-meter time of 18:19.06.MSSU had all five of its top runners finish among the top 20 scoring competitors.Junior Kara Eckard (5th -- 18:48.88) joined Shank in the top 10.Kimi ShankMissouri Southern State UniversityShank, a 5-foot-3 sophomore from St. James, Mo.,won for the second time in as many races and led the Lions to the team title at the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Border Wars Invitational Saturday (Oct. 6).She earned the title with a 5-kilometer time of 18 minutes, 19.06 seconds -- better than 11 seconds ahead of her nearest comptition.The Lions won their second team title in as many weeks by 31 points over DePauw (Ind.).Shank is a graduate of Rolla (Mo.)
