Kevin G. Parker, pastor of First Baptist Church, Aztec, for the past 10 years, has been tapped to be the 15th editor of the Baptist New Mexican, as part of his responsibilities as the Baptist Convention of New Mexico's new director of media services.
Parker, 49, was elected to the post by the unanimous vote of the BCNM's Executive Board during their quarterly meeting at the Baptist Building in Albuquerque on Monday evening, April 20.

In his new role, Parker not only will serve as editor of the BCNM's newsjournal, he will oversee the convention's overall media ministry, which includes video production and social media.
family moved to New Mexico in 2005 from Big Spring, Texas, where he
had served since 2000 as senior pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church
life to Christ at age 9 and began serving in his
home church's television ministry as a 13-year-old.
While in college, he directed the TV ministry and edited the church's broadcasts, and while in seminary, he led his church's media ministry and served in other capacities.
From 1990-91, Parker
directed technical ministries for Hillcrest Baptist Church
He also had worked as a production manager, video information specialist, video production specialist and on the production staff of a television station.
Parker served First Baptist Church, West Palm Beach, Fla., from 1992-2000, as associate minister of media, associate pastor for broadcast ministries, and associate pastor for pastoral care and minister to single adults.
Parker earned a bachelor of science in radio/television/film from the University of Texas in 1988, a master of divinity (with biblical languages) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1991 and a doctor of ministry from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif., in 2011.
was licensed to the gospel ministry by Windsor Park Baptist Church, Austin, Texas, in 1988 and ordained by First Baptist Church
, San Angelo, Texas, in 1992.
Active throughout his ministry in the work of Southern Baptists locally, statewide and nationally, Parker was appointed to the Southern Baptist Convention's Credentials Committee in 2012 and served on the SBC Committee on Nominations in 2013.
Parker also has been president of the New Mexico Baptist Pastors' Conference and the BCNM's second vice president.
Last fall, he
was elected by his
fellow members of the BCNM's
Executive Board to be its chairman for 2015.

would be presented as a candidate for the post to which he
and his wife, Susan Elaine, have been married 27 years.
