Kevin Koonce has established the East Texas Animal Rescue to care for abandoned and abused animals.He
recovers dogs, cats and other animals to revive or care for them so they can be adopted.
"Most of my life I've tried to help animals," he
started working in Cherokee County, Koonce
found a dog named "Ruby" deserted on a country road.She
was emaciated, had a litter of puppies and a broken leg.He
, took her
to the vet and took her
home.Since that time, he
has found two more mother dogs on the same country road.They now have homes with him.
"Right now I have about 20 dogs," he
said."I've probably placed about 10, since I started the rescue.I don't really go out looking for them unless I get a call.But if I see one, I do all I can to try to help it."Koonce
said many people want to adopt puppies, but he
said older dogs also make good pets.They're behavior is predictable, and they are usually less destructive, he
