Their son was born Tuesday on the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, and Kevin and Julianne Braziel of Naugatuck couldn't be happier.

Kevin Braziel, 29, is a former sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.Originally from West Haven, he is currently working with the U.S. State Department for the diplomatic mission to Iraq.He has protected three U.S. ambassadors to that country.
Braziel completed three tours of duty in Iraq and served in Afghanistan following the Sept. 11 attacks.He will return to Iraq in January.
"I feel privileged," Kevin Braziel said."It wasn't meant to be like this. (The birth) has turned a bad day into a good one.The baby came early and, ironically enough, he was born on Sept. 11."

In another ironic twist, Kevin Braziel was wounded in Baghdad on July 10, Jasmine's 4th birthday.

"I was blown off a second-floor balcony" after a rocket exploded nearby, Kevin Braziel said.He suffered multiple shrapnel burns.
"Everything happens for a reason," he said.Because of his injury, he ended up coming back to the United States July 16, rather than his planned return in October."We feel really fortunate we all got to be together.I was wounded, but it got me home," Kevin Braziel said.
