Kerry Vann is a versatile musician who maintains a busy schedule of teaching, performing, examining and lecturing.
specializes in piano, singing, percussion (including drum kit) and theory.
Since establishing her
teaching studio in 1983, she
has taught students of all ages (4 to 74) from beginners to diploma level.
Students can be entered for AMEB
or Trinity College exams in both practical and theory subjects.
regularly performs as a singer, pianist, percussionist and organist.
sang professionally in the chorus of Opera Queensland for 10 seasons and has given numerous solo recitals.
has appeared as a guest artist for the St Lucia Orchestra, QUMS, Queensland Pops Orchestra
(where she was also percussionist for several years), Brisbane and Redcliffe city councils
and 4MBS Classic FM.
has featured in the 4MBS Coorparoo Festival of Fine Music and several of her
recitals have been broadcast by the station.
has sung principal roles for the Ignatians Musical Society, the Brisbane Light Opera Company and Queensland Musical Theatre
, mainly in operetta.
As a student, Kerry toured with the Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra to Japan, China, Hong Kong and New Zealand.
She is currently principal percussionist with the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra.
Kerry is a Fellow of the Trinity College, London.
has presented papers at several national and international conferences and has written several articles for journals and music dictionaries.
has been the recipient of several awards including the J. Albert and Sons prize
for the outstanding Bachelor of Music graduate in her
year, a Mitsui Educational Foundational Scholarship to Japan for Japanese language study, a German Government Scholarship to study in Germany for her
Ph.D. research on Lohengrin and several championship awards for eisteddfod performances.
