MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. - Kenton ..., 1 Aug 2013 [cached]
MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. - Kenton Tucker has shot machine guns most of his life. He owns several, including, he says, Errol Flynn's machine gun. Tucker, a tidy, middle-aged man with a red mustache, is a principal in MG Shooters LLC, which twice a year sponsors a machine gun shoot at its secluded range in the Arizona high desert. The Big Sandy Shoot is billed as the largest in the United States.
Tucker is wary of journalists, whom the machine gun world generally views as shills for liberals who want to disarm America.
They are gathered around Tucker, who gives last-minute safety instructions.
When he finishes, the shooters hurry to their stations.
Kenton Tucker's business partner in MG Shooters LLC is Ed Hope.
Hope and Tucker have been putting on shoots for 25 years, and they know gun guys like to shoot "reactive" targets, meaning targets that explode when you shoot them.
Hope and Tucker bought the Big Sandy property, which spans 1 square mile, about 10 years ago, because it is so remote that you can safely shoot and explode as many targets as you want.
The Big Sandy shoots are a "full-time job" for Tucker and Hope, who won't disclose earnings derived from the shoot.
During our first meeting, Kenton Tucker emphasized that shooting drones has long been a highlight of the Big Sandy Shoot.
Kenton Tucker has arranged for additional spectators to be helicoptered in from Las Vegas.
Kenton Tucker and Ed Hope are busy organizing the next shoot, coming up in October.

During a special meeting of the ... [cached]
During a special meeting of the Elected Directors and COO John Pojunos, held via telephone conference on February 22, 2009, the Elected Directors (with one absence), in two separate decisions, voted unanimously to remove Appointed Directors Kenton Tucker and John Varner.
Thus, I suggested to Kenton that the time may be right for his retirement from the Convention Chairman's post, providing an opportunity for a new convention perspective and to strengthen relations between the MVPA and many of its affiliates.
He declined that approach and instead initiated a support campaign outside of the Board of Directors. At that point, the MVPA Board of Directors Executive Committee met to discuss the matter. The Committee recommended relieving Kenton of his position and referred the issue to the MVPA's Elected Directors for a vote, per the provisions outlined in the Association's By-Laws. The Elected Directors (with one absence) voted unanimously to remove Kenton from his position.
While the reasons for and results of these actions were not pleasant, I ask all members to recognize and appreciate the years of MVPA service provided by Kenton and John.
On behalf of the Association, I thank Kenton for many years of work on conventions and other MVPA business. Likewise, John's work as an articulate advocate for the hobby and organization as Supply Line Editor will always be appreciated. I look forward to their continued active involvement with the MVPA.
