A program committee is in place and Kenneth W. Nickel has been named Programming Director.
"I am very excited by this opportunity," Nickel
said, "and I am looking forward to working with the community and local arts groups to understand what they would like to see at the Met." As artistic director of Ballet Orlando in Orlando, Fla., Nickel founded the Royal Dance Festival.He
also received the Dictionary of Distinguished Leadership in the Arts Community award. Nickel
training in theatre and ballet when he
was 11 years old.He then became a principal dancer with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and later with the Dallas Ballet Company. In 1995 Nickel joined La Roche College in Pittsburgh as artistic director of performing arts.He
established a B.A. degree for Performing Arts in Dance and developed the public school arts program Resource Education Arts Development for Youth (READY). Nickel is currently on the faculty of dance in the Bachelor of Arts program at California University of Pennsylvania.
