MINERAL POINT - Kenneth William Flesch, age 77, of Mineral Point, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002.He was born on Dec. 1, 1925, in Mount Prospect, Ill., a son of the late Arthur and Amelia (Schwinn) Flesch.The family moved to Chicago, Ill., where Kenneth attended grade school and graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1942.He attended Wright Junior College in Chicago until he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served from March 6, 1943, until Jan. 22, 1946.He served as a gunners mate in the South Pacific during World War II.He earned a Victory Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Medal (two stars), a Philippine Liberation (one star), and the American Theater Medal.He was an aviation cadet in the Army of the United States Navy until June 5, 1950.Kenneth worked as a builder of caissons and as a structural ironworker out of Local No. 1 in Chicagofor 40 years.Part of that time he was a superintendent and worked on the Sears Tower, the state of Illinois building, the Golden Gate Bridge, some university buildings in many different states, a dam, other bridges, highway overpasses, roads, and Great America in Gurnee, Ill.He married Shirley Beard in Chicago on May 29, 1948, and together they raised six children in the family home in Chicago.Kenneth was active at Seminary Avenue Community Church in Chicago, where he taught Sunday school, served as a deacon, chairman of the Board and trustee chairman of the Trustees.Kenneth taught horseback riding and was a member of the Black Horse Troop in Chicago.He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks and was a commander of Colin Kelly Post No. 17.He enjoyed running track, hunting and fishing.He and his wife, Shirley, retired to a farm in the Mineral Point area in 1988.Kenneth was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Jonesdale.Although his health declined the past few years, he enjoyed the farm, visits with family, the contact with many wonderful neighbors and friends, and watching the family horses.Kenneth enjoyed his life on the farm, his church, his family and many wonderful neighbors and friends.He was a loving husband, devoted father and a devout Christian.Kenneth is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Christine (Fred) Tokarz of Dayton, Ohio, Donna (Nicholas) Knuth of Chicago, Margaret (Paul) Lambis of Pinellas Park, Fla., Arthur Flesch of Chicago, and Kenneth (Alicia Hall) Flesch of Skokie, Ill.; his grandchildren, Erik of Arizona, Steven, Tim and Chelsea of Florida, and James, John and Joshua of Ohio; his daughter-in-law, Laura Tihor-Flesch of Bradenton, Fla.; his brothers and sisters, Ruth (Joseph) Doyle and Edward (Dorothy) Flesch, both of Florida, Frank (Gertrude) Flesch of Colorado, and Ethel Stewart of Wisconsin; and his brother-in-law, Charles Hawks.Kenneth is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Christine (Fred) Tokarz of Dayton, Ohio, Donna (Nicholas) Knuth of Chicago, Margaret (Paul) Lambis of Pinellas Park, Fla., Arthur Flesch of Chicago, and Kenneth (Alicia Hall) Flesch of Skokie, Ill.; his grandchildren, Erik of Arizona, Steven, Tim and Chelsea of Florida, and James, John and Joshua of Ohio; his daughter-in-law, Laura Tihor-Flesch of Bradenton, Fla.; his brothers and sisters, Ruth (Joseph) Doyle and Edward (Dorothy) Flesch, both of Florida, Frank (Gertrude) Flesch of Colorado, and Ethel Stewart of Wisconsin; and his brother-in-law, Charles Hawks.
