According to El Dorado Fire Chief Ken Nakaten, after the husband started the grill, he noticed a small fire near the valve on the propane tank.
He went inside to get something to extinguish the fire, and while he was inside, he heard an explosion. "The whole deck was on fire," said Nakaten.  "The valve blew out and the entire contents escaped and caught fire." El Dorado firefighters were at the house in the 1900 block of Jason Drive from just after 5 p.m. until around 9 p.m. "By the time we got there, the entire back of the house was in flames," he said.  "The house is a total loss." "They are putting the finishing touches on the things inside," said Chief Ken Nakaten.
There are such things left to do as some minor wiring and installing light fixtures and speakers. "They anticipate being ready for a final inspection next Thursday," Nakaten said. At that time they will do a walk through and come up with a punch list of things that need completed, although he expects that to be minor because the fire department has been involved throughout the process. "They hope to turn the building over to us on the eighth of November," Nakaten said. That will be a little ahead of schedule. "My goal is to have our guys in there and operational by the end of November," he said. "We're very happy with it and I think we're going to really have an impressive facility out there," Nakaten continued. "We're going to have an open house and ribbon cutting after they are moved in and up and running." The city has been working toward a second fire station for some time now. "It's a milestone for us," Nakaten said.
