February 2012- Both Thunderbird High School's NJROTC cadets, instructed by Chief Warrant Officer Chris Houston and Senior Chief Glenn Shepherd, and Greenway's NJROTC cadets, instructed by Master Sergeant Paul Smith and Lieutenant Commander Paula Sawdy-Bowes, recently received outstanding ratings from Commander Kenneth Liles, Manager of NJROTC Area 11, for their appearance and performance at their annual military inspections.
Both Greenway and Thunderbird's inspections included the performance of the cadets' award-winning drills and a pass-in-review, during which each of the platoons marched past a review board consisting of Commander Liles, Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Johnson, Governing Board Clerk Patty Kennedy, and each school's principal.
After the cadets performed, Commander Liles spoke about each unit, making sure to note that both schools won the 2012 Distinguished Unit award.
