Rev. Kenneth Harrington
- 1999 to presentIn September 1999, Hope Church called Reverend Kenneth L. Harrington as its new pastor.A graduate of local Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC, Rev. Harrington worked for the Cokesbury Bookstores at Virginia Theological Seminary as the Washington, DC Area Sales Manager. Hope Church
, established 40 years ago this year, has distinguished itself with a history of intentionally welcoming diversity and freedom of thought among its parishioners. Now in 2000, Hope Church
will be installing Rev. Harrington
, who is an openly gay man.
According to Rev. Harrington
, Hope Church
"looks forward to expanding its membership and continuing its proud tradition as a community of thinking Christians who seek to live, in our times, Christ's example of love and inclusiveness." During Rev. Harrington's minister Hope Church has experienced a growth in its membership.
This has enabled the church to redevelop its ministries and missions.
Today the community of Hope Church
is active in international mission in Mexico, in state wide mission invovled in the gay marriage movement in Virginia, and in local missions to families and others in need through Koinonia. Rev. Harrington
developed the Lydia Institute for Spiritual Development
which offer educational opportunities for faith growth, and a Called to Care ministry with lay volunteers who actively care for members within the congregation. Rev. Harrington's
ministry has centered on bringing a postmodern vision of ministry to the church.
