Ken Crisman Switching to 12 v is only like putting a bandaid over a serious gash . Take battery cables off . Clean all areas of contact shiny & brite . Lube contact points with a dielectric grease & reinstall . Make sure battery & ignition system is in tip top condition . As mentioned a good tune up . Now with everything in proper order it should start ok on 6 v. Merry CHRISTmas & God bless, Ken

Ken Crisman Hi, yes you definitely have a prize there . It's what's called the Howard gear reduction transmission . It lets the PTO turn at normal 540 RPM speed & lowers the tractors ground speeed so the tiller will work properly . I'd love to see pics & hear about your tractor if possible . "Do not" & I emphasize that term ,do not, use that transmission for pulling anything . It's for rototilling only . Many people have ruined these transmissions & torn up good equipment trying to pull with it . Take good care of it & keep the maintenance up . If ya ever decide to part with it , please let me know . My email is : callj.j.s@verizon.net . Njoy your tractor & play safely . God bless, Ken
