Professor Ken Bowman - Alternate Chair
Professor Ken Bowman retired in July 2012 after 31 years in senior academic leadership and management positions at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
He is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Health, QUT.
Professor Bowman was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at QUT from 2008 to 2012.
As Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) (DVC(A)), he was the standing deputy to the Vice-Chancellor, responsible for the oversight of QUT's Faculties through the Executive Deans, the Caboolture campus, and the Oodgeroo Unit.
As Chair of University Academic Board, he was also one of three ex officio members of QUT Council.
Professor Bowman was Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health at QUT from 1991 to 2008 and the Head of the School of Optometry between 1981 and 1990.
Professor Bowman served as the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at QUT in 1990 and in 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2008 served in different Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor roles for various periods.
As Foundation Executive Dean, Professor Bowman oversaw the establishment and development of the Faculty of Health.
This included the relocation to, and consolidation of the faculty at, the Kelvin Grove campus of QUT
and the renovation and construction of a number of academic and research buildings.
During the 2000's this included significant philanthropic and government level fund raising for research and clinical buildings as well as for international collaborative capacity building programs.
Ken was instrumental in establishing the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation at QUT and served as its Interim Director for two years from 2002-2004.
Professor Bowman was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1999.
He has been awarded the title of Professor Emeritus and had an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of the University) conferred by QUT in December 2012.
