Pawtucket Winter Wonderland is excited to announce our 2011 Official Winter Wonderland Weather Woman is Meteorologist Kelly Bates from WJAR’s Storm Team 10.
Kelly Bates joined Storm Team 10 in August 2004, forecasting weather for NBC 10 News.
A 2004 and 2005 Emmy nominee and North Attleborough native, Kelly began her television career at WJAR as a college intern more than 15 years ago.
In 1996, Kelly began her professional career at WMUR in Manchester, N.H. She served as the weekend morning meteorologist and science editor for four years.
From there, Kelly went to Atlanta to work for a private weather company, providing forecasts and graphics for a cable television station in the Netherlands.
More recently, Kelly spent four years at WLNE in Providence before coming back to NBC 10.
Kelly is a Bishop Feehan High School and Lyndon State College graduate. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism with a minor in meteorology.
Kelly is a proud holder of the National Weather Association Seal of Approval for Broadcast Meteorologists, an honor she has maintained since 1998.

Kelly is a Southern New England native.She was born in Connecticut and grew up in North Attleboro, Massachusetts.
Her interest in weather came in the form of a summer afternoon thunderstorm when she was seven years old.She even collected the hail stones and kept them in a Ziplock bag in the freezer for five years.
Kelly is a graduate of Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Massachusetts and Lyndon State College in Vermont.While at college, Kelly recieved special recognition from the meteorology department for forecasting the Blizzard of 1993.
Her broadcasting career began in 1996 at WMUR in Manchester, New Hampshire.She served as the weekend weather anchor and science editor.She earned the National Weather Association Seal of Approval for Broadcast Meteorologists.She was a member of the Christa McAuliffe Planetaruim and on the board of the Southern New Hampshire School to Careers Program.Kelly was also an anchor of the Genesis Fund Telethon for children with birth defects and genetic disabilities.
After four years at WMUR, Kelly moved to Atlanta to forecast for Weatherplus, a private company that provided 24 hour weather information and graphics for European cable television franchises.
She came home to New England and ABC6 in December of 2000.Kelly can be seen weekends at 6&11pm.Kelly lives in Coventry with husband Michael and sons Maxwell and Nathan.
