"Our housing unit numbers have been up, just not the actual permit numbers," said Kelly Aberle, office manager for the Williston Building Department.

"Since the beginning of the year ...

"Since the beginning of the year we have doubled our staff from three to six," says Kelly Aberle, Williston Building Department Officer Manager/Plans Examiner. Those six employees have seen a record number of housing units permitted this past year. Aberle says so far 2,100 new units have been permitted - including over 300 single family homes, over 1,000 apartment units, and the remainder has been a combination of manufactured homes and hotels. She says hotels have been placed in this category since they are primarily being used for long-term housing.

While it seems like there is a construction project every where you look in Williston - Aberle says 2012 will be even busier. "We are looking to exceed what we did this year in 2012," she says. "Now that there has been all of the press, people are starting to line up to get their projects underway in the spring."
Aberle says she expects 2012 to feature a lot more housing and commercial development. "There are some large housing developments that will come through in 2012 and once we get some commercial to break ground, others will follow."
While Aberle may be privy to additional information, she prefers to stay quiet until the paperwork comes through the department. She did admit she expects 2012 to see more restaurants coming to Williston. Print this story Post A Comment
