TURLOCK - California State University, Stanislaus Athletics Director Dr. Milton Richards announced today that Keith Larsen has been named the University's next men's basketball head coach, effective July 1.
...Currently, Larsen is the men's basketball head coach and athletics director at Menlo College in Atherton.He is also the director of the Oaks' golf program.Larsen
, who was introduced to the local media, public and the University community Thursday, was given a multiple-year contract by CSU Stanislaus.
"We are very pleased that Keith Larsen
has accepted our offer to coach our men's basketball team," Richards said.
"With a high graduation rate, a proven record of competitive success and coaching style that emphasizes positive reinforcement, Keith
is the perfect person to lead our men's basketball program to success."
After taking over a struggling program at Menlo College
led the Oaks
to two conference championships and advanced to the NAIA national championship tournament twice.Larsen
was twice named the conference's coach of the year.Academically, Larsen's
2002-03 conference championship squad had a combined 3.41 grade-point-average.
"I am looking forward to the new opportunity at CSU Stanislaus," Larsen
said."After years of splitting time with coaching and administrative duties, I am ready to get back and concentrate solely on coaching basketball and bring Stanislaus to a national level.As important, as my children get older, the Turlock community will be a great environment for my entire family." Prior to his tenure at Menlo, Larsen worked under Mike Montgomery as an assistant coach at Stanford University from 1992 to 1997.
From 1988 to 1992, Larsen
coached boys basketball, girls volleyball and golf at Woodside (Calif.) High School.He
also worked under Bob Williams from 1987 to 1988 at Menlo College
as an assistant. Larsen
is currently working on his
Master's Degree in education with an emphasis in Athletic Administration.He is a 1985 graduate from San Francisco State, where he obtained a bachelor of arts degree in kinesiology.He also has an associate of arts degree from Skyline College in San Bruno. Larsen
wife Shaun have two children, Camilyn, 7, and Victoria, 5.
