Dr. Keith Kirby is a board certified diplomat of Pain Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is a leading expert in nonsurgical treatment for patients who suffer from degenerative disc disease and disc herniations of the spine, SI joint problems, sciatica, peripheral neuropathy, shingles, reflex sympathetic dystrophy and many other cases of persistent pain. He received his degree from Chicago Medical and carried out his residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. After practicing with the Neurological Institute of Savannah for 10 years, Dr. Kirby opened Savannah Pain Management in May of 2005. During the summer of 2008, Dr. Kirby opened the Savannah Pain Center, the only Ambulatory Surgery Center in the Savannah metropolitan area specifically dedicated to the treatment of pain. Keith A. Kirby, M.D. After receiving a B.S. in physical therapy, Dr. Kirby received his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School. He was then involved in a medical research study before performing an internship at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Georgia. Later, Dr. Kirby served a residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He held the position of medical director in two different medical facilities before he became president and physician at Savannah Pain Management, where he currently practices.
Dr. Kirby is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Kirby began his career in 1980 as a physical therapist in Illinois.He soon went back to school to get his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School in 1987.After graduation, Dr. Kirby earned his United States Army Flight Surgeon Wings and his career took flight as he was appointed chief of the aviation medical clinic and served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Army during the Persian Gulf War.His talent and service in the war were recognized as Dr. Kirby was presented with the National Defense Metal.In 1992, he began to work with feet firmly planted on the ground but in an effort just as heroic.He has received over 1500 hours of emergency medicine experience from his work at the National Emergency Services, Inc. in Toledo, Ohio and the Spectrum Emergency Care, Inc. in St. Louis, MO. In May 1994, Dr. Kirby trained with Dr. Frank Lagutta at the Illinois Spine and Sports Center in Bloomingdale, Illinois, in the performance of epidural blocks, selective nerve blocks, facet and sacroiliac joint blocks.
In his spare time Dr. Kirby likes to spend time with his wife and two sons, play golf, water-ski, play racquetball or go fishing.
