Keith S. Karn, PhD / Director of User Research & Human Factors
has been steeped in human-centered design since strapping himself into the ejection seat of a supersonic airplane during his
first human factors job in the early '80s.
Since then he
has trekked down mountains and trailed ER docs, all in the pursuit of user research.
Before coming to Bresslergroup, he led user research and design teams at Xerox and Eastman Kodak, whose human factors department was one of the first in American industry.
has also designed for healthcare, including medical information systems and medical devices, and has extensive experience leading usability testing to meet the requirements of the FDA
and European governing bodies.
interprets design as finding solutions that balance the competing and sometimes contradictory needs of users.
At Bresslergroup, he
leads contextual inquiry and usability testing, adding the rigor required to create successful user interfaces and intuitive product experiences.
He also led Bresslergroup's interaction design team before moving into his current role.
speaks and publishes frequently on usability evaluation methods, improving customer acceptance through user-centered product design, and user interface design for emerging technologies.
He earned his PhD in Experimental Psychology at the University of Rochester and degrees in Ergonomics and Industrial Engineering at North Carolina State University and Penn State.
He taught human factors and human-computer interaction for many years at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester.
