Paso Robles Police Department Officer Keith Hartman, Paso Robles D.A.R.E. Instructor and Commissioner for the Paso Robles Police Activities League [PRPAL], said the event always draws a sizable crowd of competitors as well as spectators.
"[The PRPAL Downhill Derby] is something that kids don't normally get to do - drive cars," Hartman said. "We run three police activities events," said Hartman. "We have the downhill [derby], the fishing derby and the Junior Giants - and all of those are no-cost sporting events and activities for the kids." Hartman said he's proud to be a part of a community that is able to provide these types of venues for the areas youth. "We put on supervised, quality recreation events for the kids, and that's what it's all about," he said.
